Grimshaw’s concept design for 385 Bourke Street explores the potential to develop office space above the current podium and roof of the Galleria Retail Centre. It also seeks to upgrade the existing retail centre which comprises of approximately 7000 sq m over a two-level podium.
The project is designed to enhance the public realm of this prominent corner site and its connection to the surrounding streets and laneways, while engaging with the present 385 Bourke Street tower at low level. The site is bounded by Bourke Street to the north, Elizabeth Street to the east and Little Collins Street to the South.
One of the aims for the new building is for it to provide a Grade ‘A’ office space with a minimum net lettable area of 24,000 sq m. The design seeks to minimise the impact of the new building upon the existing retail tenancies and services for the main tower at basement and high levels.
