At Grimshaw we are leading the industry with our ambitious sustainability targets, and creating compelling, forward- thinking architecture and design that has the power to deliver a better future.
Across four decades our holistic approach to sustainable development has encompassed the full scale of economic, social and environmental impacts. Today more than ever we know that an increasing population and finite resources present a unique challenge, and our response addresses ways to move towards a regenerative environment that connects carbon, water, biodiversity, energy, a circular economy and health and wellbeing to create a resilient and adaptable way of life.
All of our business operations at Grimshaw have been carbon neutral since 2020. We have pledged to design and deliver socially and environmentally regenerative buildings and assets by 2030, and as a first step to reach this, to design net zero carbon ready buildings and infrastructure by the end of 2025. To deliver these commitments we have established specific design procedures, provided additional training and software and invested in collaborations and partnerships with research organizations and industry partners, working within industry networks to expedite the change that’s required.
In 2024, Grimshaw, in collaboration with the World Building Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and with over 15 supporting organisations, including RIBA, the American Institute of Architects, Architecture 20230, the World Green Building Council and several national Green Building Councils from across the globe, launched Minoro, an online platform, designed to help accelerate decarbonisation of buildings.
Curated by experts and hosting latest guidance, methodologies, and policies on carbon management, Minoro is the first free to use platform that centralises these resources and links them to series of actions that will decarbonise new and existing buildings.
Accessible to asset owners, investors, design teams, consultants, contractors and building operators it holds global information and specific guidance supporting key regions including the UK, Europe, US and Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The ingenuity and innovation that transforms our projects and surpasses their sustainable targets is a result of inquiry, research and ideas. These projects highlight some of the strategies adopted across sectors and the legacy and long term impact of our design approach.
We recognise that the issues confronting our planet are too large, too significant and too urgent to address alone. We have partnered with organisations across the globe to make measurable commitments to change, both within our practice and our wider industry.
Grimshaw is committed to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and the United Nations Race to Zero campaign. The practice is also a signatory of the the World Green Building Council’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment, Architects Declare, and Architecture 2030, and is a member of Responsible Steel and the Climate Group's ConcreteZero.
