Grimshaw announces the appointment of Andrew Perez as the new Managing Partner of its Melbourne studio.
Andrew has been with Grimshaw for 19 years, joining our London studio in 2004, and was made Partner in 2018. He has lived and worked in Australia since 2015 when he commenced a leadership role on the Melbourne Airport projects.

Grimshaw Architects, in collaboration with The Riboli Family and development manager Granite Properties, has submitted an entitlement proposal to the City of Los Angeles to transform an existing surface parking lot at 130 West College Street in Chinatown into a dynamic, all-electric mass timber creative office building.

Grimshaw's new 27-storey workplace, the Poly Centre, is a vital new component of the emerging Alfred, Pitt, Daley and George Streets (APDG) precinct, adjacent to Circular Quay.
The design is sculptural in form, and manifests as a tripartite composition: east-facing core, a 27-storey central tower facing westward, and an 11-storey tower formed by a series of cantilevered arches creating a sheltered public realm in dialogue with the street and this historically significant precinct.

Grimshaw is working with Smith College in the programming phase of the project to identify a new vision and program for the Lyman Plant House and Conservatory – a building at the heart of the College’s historic Botanic Garden, set within their campus in Northampton, Massachusetts.

A design consortium led by Grimshaw, alongside Mott MacDonald, China Aviation Planning and Design Institute (AVIC CAPDI) and Beijing Urban Construction Design and Development Group (BJUCD) has been selected as the winner of an international competition for Shenzhen Airport East Integrated Transport Hub. The multi-disciplinary design team also includes schlaich bergermann partner (sbp), Atelier Ten and Gross Max.

Grimshaw, with Little Diversified Architectural Consulting (Little) as architect of record, is pleased to reveal initial concepts of the new 21,000 sf arts complex for Santa Monica College (SMC) in Santa Monica, California. Situated on the corner of 1Llth Street and Pico Boulevard, the building will replace an existing surface car park and serve as a new western gateway for the college. Utilizing an industrial aesthetic yet elegant in its detailing, the new Arts Complex endeavours to become a 'factory of creativity' inviting students, faculty and the community of Santa Monica to immediately feel at home.

Grimshaw is pleased to announce the D-Tec suite of prefabricated health facilities created in partnership with SG Blocks and Osang Healthcare for on-site immediate Covid-19 testing. The deployable technology line upcycles disused shipping containers as a foundation for a sturdy and sustainable solution to mass testing needs. D-Tec is being launched in its first iteration to rapidly respond to the needs that the Covid-19 pandemic has created for scalable, easy-to-assemble facilities that can be deployed and relocated on short notice.

Grimshaw’s design proposals for Birmingham’s new HS2 Curzon Street station were approved by Birmingham City Council today, becoming the first HS2 Phase One station to achieve consented status. This key project milestone represents 24 months of close collaboration with HS2, the city of Birmingham and other key stakeholders. Curzon Street station will form an integral part of a major new transport interchange, bringing together HS2, Moor Street Station, West Midlands Metro tram and new bus facilities.

Andrew Whalley, Grimshaw Chairman, laid out an ambitious approach to the firm’s environmental strategy in his opening keynote at the World Architecture Festival in Amsterdam. His lecture, titled ‘Zero,’ outlined Grimshaw’s commitment to an ambitious start of the new decade in which all of Grimshaw’s international operations and studios will operate on a net zero carbon basis, and all of its design work will be net zero carbon ready within the decade.

The Laboratory at Dulwich College is a state-of-the-art science building located in the heart of the school’s historic campus in south London. The £14 million Grimshaw-designed scheme was officially opened earlier this month and is the first completed school project in the practice’s education portfolio.

ENTIQ, the innovation delivery and business accelerator specialists and DV4, Delancey’s evergreen investment fund, have selected Grimshaw to design Europe’s largest innovation centre at Here East, London’s 1.2 million square foot digital and creative campus on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. This centre will bring together a community of small and big businesses that will build connected products that will improve people’s lives, with an initial focus on sport, health, fashion, design and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The design team working on London Bridge Station – Arcadis, WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff JV and architect Grimshaw, working for main contractor Costain - are celebrating the successful delivery of the second stage of the programme today, with two thirds of the street level concourse and three new through track platforms opened.
One of the most complex and ambitious rail station redevelopments in the UK to date, the transformation of London Bridge Station - part of Network Rail’s Thameslink Programme - requires the team to design a safe change from six through and nine terminus platforms to nine through and six terminus, without causing major disruption to passengers.

Rising from the heritage precinct of Martin Place and with three street frontages, 333 George Street has been designed to create a unique and acclaimed corporate destination; an elegant landmark that reflects the legacy of its historic setting and public prominence.

TfL has received resolution to grant consent for Grimshaw's Nine Elms Over Site Development (OSD), in a unanimous decision by the Lambeth Council Planning Committee.
Four key buildings are contained in the design: three of which will be residential with a minimum of 25% affordable rental housing, built over Nine Elms Underground Station. The fourth building will comprise commercial office and retail spaces. The proposals deliver 332 residential units with 161 one bedroom, 155 two bedroom, 14 three bedroom and 2 four bedroom apartments, providing much needed homes for residents on a variety of income scales.

A team consisting of NOW Architects in association with Grimshaw has been selected to design LetsRun Park in Yeongcheon, South Korea. The project was secured through an international design competition hosted by the Korea Racing Authority and organized by the International Union of Architects, receiving entries from 23 leading global practices. The winning design and master plan details a 148 hectare park that combines a comprehensive new racecourse with a family park featuring a wide range of equine-themed sports, activities and outdoor attractions.

A successful collaboration between architects and tensile designers reached its final stage last week at Frankfurt’s Light + Building festival and trade fair, where MDT-tex launched the final Tensilation Type EV canopy system. Grimshaw has been working with MDT-tex to develop a product that offers both the flexibility that comes with modular canopies and the engineering advantages of a unified structure.
The resulting design created a dramatic display at Light + Building, and delighted design-savvy spectators, while situated in the courtyard of the grand Palais Thurn & Taxis in the heart of Frankfurt. Projections by photographer and light artist, Laurenz Theinert, brought the canopies to life.
