Grimshaw's new 27-storey workplace, the Poly Centre, is a vital new component of the emerging Alfred, Pitt, Daley and George Streets (APDG) precinct, adjacent to Circular Quay.
The design is sculptural in form, and manifests as a tripartite composition: east-facing core, a 27-storey central tower facing westward, and an 11-storey tower formed by a series of cantilevered arches creating a sheltered public realm in dialogue with the street and this historically significant precinct.

Products + Process
Florence Hall, RIBA London, 1988
The first exhibition of Grimshaw work was held in the RIBA Florence Hall. A white enclosure was created in the hall with white rubber flooring and a perimeter wall built from sinusoidal aluminium panels that formed the backdrop with drawings sketches and photographs. The main exhibits in the hall were large scale models paired with full size components, pieces of structure and cladding systems. This was very well received by the public and critically acclaimed in the press and was accompanied by the first Grimshaw Books edited by Jan Kaplicky.
Structure Space and Skin
London, 1993
The second Grimshaw exhibition held again at the RIBA Florence Hall coincided with the publication of the first Phaidon Monograph with the same name. It followed a similar format to the previous exhibition with a greater emphasis on large scale models and full scale mockups of the British Pavilion from Seville Expo and structural components from Waterloo International and Western Morning News.
Fusion
UK, Europe, the United States and Japan, 1998
Contained within 19 free-standing aluminium flight cases that were specifically customised, this travelling exhibition presented Grimshaw's industrial design work, showing the firm's long-standing enthusiasm for detailing: from initial concepts through to prototyping, testing and mass production.
Equilibrium
London, 1999
Equilibrium explored themes such as scale and context. The exhibition was self-contained, using a mobile flight case display system developed by the Grimshaw Industrial Design. Each case was installed with a combination of projection screens, models, photographs, drawings and sample materials to create a multi-layered, tactile experience.
Micro to Macro
Queens Museum, New York, NY, 2007
Just before Queens Museum closed for renovation, two galleries were used for an exhibition on Grimshaw. The lower gallery contained the flight cases from the Fusion exhibition with some cases updated and was a retrospective of the practice’s work going back to the 1967 Service Tower. The Upper Gallery showcased the New York studio’s current projects in the USA and Mexico. A special supplement was printed by the Architects Newspaper which went to all Architects in the tristate area to publicise the exhibition and was used as the catalogue.
