Wimbledon No1 Court   London, UK

After a competitive selection process Grimshaw was selected by The All England Lawn Tennis Club to design their master plan for future redevelopment. This includes helping the Club plan for further improvements to the grounds over the next 10-15 years.

The redesign of No1 Court was one of the first stages of the implementation of the master plan. Embracing Wimbledon’s unique history of tradition and innovation, the design enhances its position as the pre-eminent tennis Grand Slam.

Improvements to the existing stadium included a new retractable roof to allow for uninterrupted play irrespective of the weather, a new hospitality level, and new bowl structure with increased capacity to just under 13,000 seats. The design includes an increased public food and beverage offer, and significant improvements to players and staff facilities.
