The Abu Dhabi Light Rail Project is a unique opportunity to transform the city`s transport into a world-class system that is enjoyable, safe and inclusive to use and operate.

The project is a vital component of the Abu Dhabi 2030 Masterplan ensuring the city’s future economic, cultural and environmental goals by meeting the urgent need for a modern and sustainable public transport infrastructure

Grimshaw supported the Sener-Typsa engineering team during the concept design phase of the project to set out a vision for the system which reflect the corporate aspirations of the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport (ABUDHABI – UAE) and deliver a ‘world class, sustainable transport system.’

The stations have been designed to make use of passive shading and cooling ‘chimneys’ which draw cool air through the shelters to provide improved passenger comfort during warmer months while creating a strong visual identity for the system line-wide.
