The Neville Bonner Bridge will provide a new pedestrian connection across Brisbane River, creating an iconic gateway between the South Bank arts and cultural precinct and the future Queen’s Wharf Brisbane entertainment and lifestyle precinct.

With the surrounding parklands context influencing the design, the structure of the bridge has been highly considered and engineered to achieve an elegant and efficient outcome.

The hybrid mast and arch design minimises the structure required to span the river, creating a lightweight yet dramatic presence through an inherently environmentally responsible solution.

Featuring a suspended deck to encourage people to linger and enjoy views of the river, city and parklands, as well as a continuous shade structure to provide protection from the subtropical sun, Neville Bonner Bridge seeks to celebrate the pedestrian and provide significant public amenity.

Named in honour of the late Senator Neville Bonner AO, the first Indigenous Australian to become a member of the Commonwealth Parliament and Australian of the Year, the bridge will add to Brisbane’s array of unique water infrastructure and ultimately enable greater connectivity across Brisbane’s CBD.
