Wurun Senior Campus is a new, highly sustainable, vertical senior campus that brings together two existing high schools to accommodate 650 students.
Forming a key part of a large inner-urban redevelopment, and operated by Collingwood College and Fitzroy High School, the six-storey building provides world-class education facilities for senior students in a setting that is highly integrated with the local community and built environment.
Folding around a prominent corner site, the building form steps up along its length to create a series of landscaped outdoor terraces. Each terrace allows direct connection to interior learning environments to promote a diverse pedagogical offering as well as health and wellbeing through the provision of abundant natural light, airflow, views and recreation spaces.
Designed to help equip students with building 21st century skills, spaces are highly flexible, adaptable and technology rich. Together, they form an experiential learning landscape replete with specialised facilities for performing arts and STEM, and foster a contemporary approach to pedagogy and interdisciplinary learning.

Each terrace allows direct connection to interior learning environments to promote a diverse pedagogical offering as well as health and wellbeing.
A voluminous multi-purpose atrium forms the campus heart and provides a flexible gathering space from which each of the six levels may be accessed. Each level is designed as a learning precinct and features a range of learning environments of varying types and scales to support personalised and collaborative learning.
To enhance the connection between the precincts and disciplines, a coloured internal laneway winds up through the building, with stairs positioned in multi-level voids to emphasise visibility and enable clear wayfinding.
An innovative stacked court design allows the campus to also accommodate three multi-purpose sports courts, with the ground-level sports facility designed to be accessible by the community out of school hours.
The design of the Wurun Senior Campus also provides for direct access to the adjacent multi-level sports centre as part of the broader 3.9 hectare Fitzroy Gasworks redevelopment.
Completed for the start of the Australian 2022 school year, the Wurun Senior Campus is now transforming senior secondary learning for the students of Collingwood College and Fitzroy High School.
