Eden Project Morecambe is a unique and ambitious project that seeks to reimagine the seaside resort for the twenty-first century. The project has far-reaching environmental, social and economic ambitions, but above all it will be a day out that inspires a sense of wonder and connection with the natural world, supporting the Eden Project mission to bring about positive action for the planet.
Eden Project Morecambe shares much with the hugely successful Eden Project in Cornwall, also designed by Grimshaw. It is a ticketed visitor attraction that is sustainable and transformative. At its heart are large indoor environments, comprising zones of differing character, housed within iconic buildings. It builds on Eden Project’s particular mix of entertainment and education, leaving visitors with lasting memories as well as driving positive behavioural change.
Building on 25 years of operational expertise it combines exhibitions, performance, learning, play, immersive experiences, world class horticulture, art, food, beverage and retail spaces, all integrated as essential parts of the overall experience.
The visitor experience and architectural design are uniquely tuned to Morecambe. Taking inspiration from the nature and rhythms of Morecambe Bay, the destination incorporates two ‘shell’ structures — the Realm of the Sun and the Realm of the Moon — that are set within sculpted external spaces and gardens.
The Realm of the Sun will house a wonderful landscape that conveys the healing power of nature, with a sculptural Elder tree forming a central element to this space.
By contrast The Realm of the Moon will be a dark space, bringing to life Morecambe Bay’s natural rhythms — with one of the largest tidal ranges in the world — an immersive spectacle of seasons and discovery.
The project provides hope that the future is ours as a healthy planet and healthy people, leaving visitors with lasting memories as well as driving positive behavioural change.
The design showcases the experience we have developed, its magnitude to deliver on budget and to the timescales that we know everyone is keen for us to meet. This design does this without compromising on ambition or vision. Eden Project Morecambe is going to ultimately become the destination from the community, for the community and is developed in tandem with our brilliant partners in Morecambe and throughout the North West and will be something for us all to be proud of.

These structures, sitting within the sculpted external spaces and gardens, will support Eden Project's mission to reconnect people with nature for positive change and bring to life this immersive and memorable experience in Morecambe.
