Wandsworth Council has granted planning permission for the Grimshaw designed Battersea Underground Station, in the heart of the Battersea regeneration area.
The station will connect the Northern Line into the Battersea development, and is scheduled to complete construction in 2020.
The station will be the first in the borough in 95 years, and presents a massive opportunity for job creation in the area. The station will open onto Battersea Park Road as well as the new High Street in the power station site.
Neill McClements, Partner at Grimshaw, said: “We are delighted to reach another significant milestone on this transformational project. The eastern station entrance at Battersea will provide a distinctive gateway to the heart of the surrounding development, orientating passengers with views of Gilbert Scott’s Power Station and providing a convenient interchange with onward transport modes.
"It is a truly collaborative client, design and development team and we look forward to seeing the project develop as part of a major regeneration within the borough of Wandsworth.”
