Articles Andrew Perez named as new Managing Partner of Grimshaw’s Melbourne Studio

Grimshaw announces the appointment of Andrew Perez as the new Managing Partner of its Melbourne studio. Andrew has been with Grimshaw for 19 years, joining our London studio in 2004, and was made Partner in 2018. He has lived and worked in Australia since 2015 when he commenced a leadership role on the Melbourne Airport projects.

Andrew has over 25 years of international experience in all aspects of our work, from design to delivery, with particular experience in the aviation sector where he has worked on global airports and their associated development.

In Melbourne, this comprises the practice’s current work on Melbourne International Airport, including the 2016 Master Plan, the new Melbourne Airport T2 Arrivals Hall Redevelopment and the current Elevated Road and Forecourt project. Regionally, he is partner-in-charge of the Auckland Airport Terminal Development Project. In Victoria, he has directed the Hobsons Bay Wetlands Centre project

and the recently announced Twelve Apostles Visitor Experience Centre for the Victorian Government. Nationally, Andrew has led work on the Brisbane Botanical Gardens Tropical Biome and the Perth Airport Property Master Plan.

Globally, he has led work at major airports in North and South America, the UK and Europe. Andrew led the master planning of the Oman Botanic Garden in Muscat, now being delivered on site, and managed the delivery of two buildings at the London campus of University College London.

“Assuming a new role in the studio in which I have worked alongside Neil Stonell to develop the talent, initiative and capacity of our people is a moment of great excitement. Grimshaw acknowledges that we collectively face incredible challenges to provide better thinking and better architecture for the world to help overcome its social and environmental issues. I am honoured to now guide the studio through the next stage of its development and to continue to support my fellow Australian and global partners."

Andrew Perez, Managing Partner of Grimshaw's Melbourne studio

“It has been a true pleasure to work with Andrew Perez over the past eight years and the practice has developed because of Andrew’s particular global expertise and experience. Andrew’s contribution to Grimshaw’s ability to deliver large scale projects in Australia is a direct result of his ability to share knowledge and mobilise our global networks to develop buildings which reflect our priorities to make architecture which benefits society and prioritises our commitment to a better future. I wish Andrew every success in his new role, and look forward to continuing to work alongside him across our region.” said Neil Stonell.

Andrew assumes his new role succeeding Neil Stonell, who has held the Managing Partner role since 2010. An important announcement regarding Neil Stonell and the practice’s activities in New Zealand will be made in June, 2023.
