Yarra Valley Country Club   Heidelberg, Australia

The Yarra Valley Country Club master plan supports the development of an exemplar sustainable community in Melbourne’s north-east. Principally, it aspires to coalesce water management and the regeneration of an ecologically and culturally sensitive site adjacent to the Yarra River and Heide Museum of Modern Art, providing significant public benefits for the precinct.

Grimshaw’s careful revisioning of the site has been driven by five principles: urban ecosystem, networked living, sustainable community, living choice, and native landscape preservation.

Inspired by a study of natural systems, the master plan takes its form from the flow of natural waterways which then define zones for the placement of the buildings, enabling the design to achieve an organic ‘connectedness’ and affinity with the landscape.

The master plan allows for the redevelopment of the existing clubhouse to provide a revitalised social and recreational asset for members and residents, and creates a new neighbourhood through the provision of townhouses and outdoor recreation spaces.

Through the conceptual design of the architecture, passive design principles and modular construction systems have been explored within a resort-style typology that is designed to maximise accessibility, functionality and adaptability and garner the interest of downsizers.

The Yarra Valley Country Club master plan demonstrates Grimshaw’s commitment to excellence in design, and our strongly held belief in the importance of the human connection to landscape.
