Articles Grimshaw named Higher Education Architect of the Year

Grimshaw was named Higher Education Architect of the Year at the Architect of the Year Awards 2020, announced on Friday 23 October 2020. Organised by Building Design, the AYAs celebrate the work of architects across the profession and acknowledge a body of work rather than individual buildings.

The judges' comments highlighted Grimshaw's aim "to promote learning, collaboration, and wellbeing, whilst creating sustainable buildings that are adaptable for the future" and praised the practice's Higher Education projects as a showcase for "how end-user focussed

In the UK, recently completed projects include the Civil Engineering Building for the University of Cambridge, Bath Spa University's Schools of Art and Design, and the final phase of the practice's masterplan for the Boldrewood Innovation Campus at the University of Southampton, realised over 10 years.

Internationally, Grimshaw recently delivered the Woodside Building for Technology, Engineering and Design for Monash University in Melbourne, one of the largest certified Passive House buildings in the Southern hemisphere. Other recent projects include the F-23 Administration Building for the University of Sydney as well as the Science and Engineering Building of the University of New South Wales and its adjacent precinct. Both projects were highly awarded by the NSW Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects.
