50/60 Station Road → was announced as the winner of the British Council for Offices' (BCO) Commercial Workplace Award at the Midlands & Central England award ceremony last night. A high-quality commercial and retail development at the heart of Brookgate's CB1 masterplan in Cambridge, the nine-storey building opened in 2019 and houses leading global companies including Amazon, Samsung, and WeWork.
The winner's citation states that "the BCO judges felt unanimously that this state-of-the-art development in the city’s bustling technology quarter exudes quality, offering a spectacular welcome for those arriving at Cambridge Railway Station". The judges also highlighted the building's "well-considered, welcoming entrance" and the design's "clear focus on the health and wellbeing of its occupiers".
Grimshaw Partner Neven Sidor → said “This was a challenging project in Town Planning and Architectural terms. We are pleased to have found ways of articulating the facades to suite the scale and grain of a Conservation Area, achieving a City of London quality within a budget derived from regional rents.”
50/60 Station Road will now be considered for a BCO National Award, due to be announced on 26 January 2021. The winners of this year's Regional BCO Awards are being announced during the BCO Festival Week of Virtual Awards, running until 23 October 2020. For more information visit the BCO's website →.
