The Energy-from-Waste facility → in Suffolk has won the top prize for sustainability at the 2016 Blueprint Awards. Surpassing a shortlist of eight projects, this is the first award for the project which stands as a striking innovation in industrial architecture.

The facility is a greener alternative to landfill waste disposal and currently processes 269,000 tonnes of waste which produces enough electricity for 30,000 homes. The design is sympathetic to its rural setting and includes a state-of-the-art visitors’ centre to help spread the message of the importance of alternative energy and waste processing.

It is one of only four buildings in East Anglia to be awarded with BREEAM ‘Outstanding’, placing it in the top 2% of all BREEAM assessed buildings.

The design team and client are honoured to have the building recognised by the Blueprint Awards jury who made the following comments:
