Articles Royal Gold Medal Celebrations

On 14th February Sir Nicholas Grimshaw was awarded the RIBA Royal Gold Medal for Architecture 2019, in recognition of a lifetime of architectural achievement. Throughout the week beginning 11th February a host of events took place at the RIBA in London. The week began with a RIBA Fellows event inducting Sir Nicholas, and culminating in the launch of our commemorative exhibition, 'Evolution', and the Gold Medal ceremony.

Our festivities have centred around Sir Nicholas, and the evolution of his work and the practice from the start of his career to the present day.

Sir Nicholas has himself been reflecting upon his career in interviews with a number of publications, covering everything from micro-homes and sustainability, to his most famous projects including International Terminal Waterloo →.

You can read his interviews in the Financial Times →, Blueprint Magazine →, Dezeen →, ArchDaily →, as well as listen in to his broadcast appearances across the BBC, including for Radio Four →.

To commemorate the award of the Royal Gold Medal, we've produced a short film, which you can view below.

If you're in London you can also visit our Royal Gold Medal Exhibition at the RIBA in 66 Portland Place.
