London Bridge station → has been nominated for the prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize.

After opening in July last year, the station has won a number of major awards, culminating in making the shortlist for the Stirling Prize.

The redevelopment of London Bridge station is respectful of the history of the area while extending the station to 15 platforms with a large concourse beneath the platforms creating a new civic space for the area. The station has connected communities around the station, extended accessibility into the capital, and it now provides capacity for over 90 million passengers every year.

The judges were impressed with the delivery of a radical new station whilst it remained operational through the entire construction period.

The judges said: "This nationally significant infrastructure project delivers connectivity across a significant area of England, from the Norfolk coast to the South coast. It can comfortably accommodate current and future passenger numbers, and significantly improves the experience of those who use it daily."

Alongside five other projects, the winning project will be announced in October.
