Articles Grimshaw wins AJ100 International Practice of the Year Award

Grimshaw has been awarded the AJ100 'International Practice of the Year' Award.

The award, run by the Architects' Journal →, is based on international business data from the AJ100 survey, which includes growth in fees and increase in number of architects employed across the globe. The awards ceremony took place at the Tower of London's Pavilion at an event attended by some of the industry's most celebrated figures.

To receive the award, Grimshaw moved up two places to eighth in the AJ100 rankings, having employed 73 architects, an increase of 118 per cent, and greatly expanding architectural fees from outside the UK. The practice is delighted to have received the award, and looks forward to continuing to produce exemplary architecture around the world out of offices in London, New York, Sydney, Melbourne and Qatar.

The Architects' Journal wrote of the practice: "Designing in locales as disparate as Albania, Oman and Singapore, it scrupulously investigates and responds to context, inflecting its global practice with a nuanced understanding of the local to deliver consistently exemplary and enduring buildings.

"From airports to housing, sports stadia to schools, the breadth of scale and typological diversity is especially impressive. Creatively co-ordinating such a widely dispersed set of offices and people requires skill and insight and it is clear that there is an extremely fertile reciprocity between the various elements of this sophisticated global network.

"Each studio operates with a high degree of autonomy but is simultaneously able to draw on the resources of the greater Grimshaw whole to devise enriched, innovative and sustainable architectural propositions appropriate to their particular milieu"
